What Had People Done to Preserve Batik?

  • UNESCO (an organization that protects world’s heritages) had preserved the batik and had added it as one of the world cultural heritage. The organization had protected and appreciates batik, either Yogyakarta batik or other type of batik. UNESCO recognizes batik as World Intangible Heritage from Indonesia on 2 October 2010 and that day was dedicated as the Batik Day.

  • National Museums had display batik and shows the history of batik. The museums had tried to educate people and convince people to appreciate and respect batik.

  • Indonesia had improvised a day to be Batik Day and it was on the 2nd October.

  • There was an organization under the prime minister that helps preserve and produce batik to be known by people around the world. This organization was called the Balai Besar Kerajinan dan Batik.

  • The Sonobudoyo Museum in Jogja had also shown or added batik as one of their heritage collection. They tried to educate people how to make written batik and also show the history of batik.

  • Keraton Yogyakarta (Jogja Palace) had also kept record and kept batik in one of their antique collection. They had educated people to appreciate batik and understand the changes and development.
