Function of Batik in the Past

Batik function on the past was for being worn by kings and royal family members. They are used daily because it was a kings clothing that was believed to bring prosperity and protection. It was used as a daily basis and may include their beliefs that it was a very important thing. Batik had also encouraged and increases their self-confidence about the things that may happen during the day ahead. They believe that when they wear it a sudden luck would come to them. 

 

Function of Batik in Present

The function nowadays was to be worn during special occasion and traditional rituals and tradition activities. A Batik Day was created and a day of the week (Friday) was considered as a day to wear batik. People appreciate this ways to make batik unforgettable by Indonesian people since it’s our own cultural heritage. People would wear batik on Fridays, and some school had created a law so that students wear batik on a certain day of the week. It shows how we appreciate and respect batik as our clothing design. 

 

Change and Connection

The connection now was that batik was still appreciated by people in both time periods. People found out that batik have an important meaning even not just for luck but also for appreciating cultural heritage that  may been forgotten. Throughout time, people had known ways to create batik like they used to be on the past.
